Successful 2021 shows are reflection of buoyant superyacht industry

THE yachting industry is in buoyant mood and determined to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic in a strong and prosperous fashion.

That’s the overall view of the owners, captains, brokers and shipyard operators that we spoke to at two of this year’s biggest showpiece events – the Monaco Yacht Show and Fort Lauderdale Yacht Show.

Having enjoyed a hectic week in Monaco in September, our team also felt a real sense of excitement for the 12 months ahead when in attendance at Fort Lauderdale just a few weeks later.

Business was brisk for buyers and sellers alike at both shows, a sign that the market is on an upward trajectory and ready to welcome several significant new entrants to the sector.

For our team at WYM Group, the glittering events proved to be very productive – allowing us to mingle and meet with key names from within the superyacht and megayacht industry.

Reflecting on the success of both shows, WYM Group managing director Allan Wilson said: “Being able to spend quality time speaking to those we have supported for many years was invaluable. It was also great to meet people for the first time and explain our experience, knowledge and capabilities.

“After more than 25 years in yacht and ship management, many of the people we spoke to were interested in our truly independent nature – a position which has helped us achieve continued growth in the past two decades.

“Despite all the challenges everyone in the industry has faced, it was great to be able to rub shoulders with people who share our passion for yachts.”

Having added to our team and increased our fleet of yacht management clients in recent months, Allan is confident the yachting industry has a bright future ahead.

He added: “Since returning to work, we have already been in touch with the people we met in Monaco and the US to discuss potential working partnerships for the future.

“The message from everyone who attended the shows was very clear – the yachting world is ready to set sail again. Myself and my team cannot wait to play our part in making that happen.

“We anticipate that our fleet – which already includes superyachts and megayachts - will grow further over the coming months.”
