Monaco Yacht Show Cancelled – but busy times at WYM Group

Covid-19 sees Monaco Yacht Show cancelled but brings demand for WYM Group expertise

Like many across the world our team at WYM Group were disappointed to see this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, which had been scheduled to be held next month, cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our managing director Allan Wilson has attended each and every show since it was founded in 1991.

He said: “For anybody who has any involvement with superyachts the Monaco Yacht Show is one of the most important events of the year.

“It is a time when owners, builders, designers, brokers and yacht management specialists such as ourselves can come together and discuss the latest developments across the industry.

“We always enjoy the opportunity to meet up with the owners, captains and crews of yachts that we manage, as there are always a number in attendance.

“The show also provides the chance to speak to potential new clients, industry professionals, suppliers, and of course the captains and crews of other superyachts about their lives aboard and the challenges that brings.

“Although we have lost the Monaco show this year, it is encouraging to see plans are still in place to hold The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and if this can be done safely it would be a boost to the sector after a difficult and challenging year.”

Mr Wilson says his company has been ‘extremely busy’ throughout the Covid-19 pandemic supporting yachts across the world which have faced a wide range of issues.

“As was recognised when organisers took the decision to cancel Monaco Yacht Show, yacht owners, shipyards, and other key organisations have faced extremely challenging times as a result of Covid-19, impacting on owners’ planned itineraries and the availability of crews,” he said.

“The impact of Covid-19 has been something which has kept our teams at WYM Group very busy over the past four months, and I imagine it will continue to do so for the months ahead as we support yacht owners, captains and crews to plan forward.

“Hopefully, the entire yachting industry will have sailed through these choppy waters come this time next year, and we’ll be able to return to the Monaco Yacht Show once again at the Port Hercule of Monaco.

“Should anybody be facing new challenges and be in need of specialist yacht and ship management support however, our team are available at all times to offer expertise in all areas, from accounts and crew management to technical and ISM services, logistics and regulatory compliance.”
